Install OhMyShot
Updated October 24, 2026
OhMyShot runs on Macs with Apple silicon and macOS 26 Tahoe or later. No release has been published yet, so for now you build it from its source with Xcode. When the first release is out, this page shows the download instead.
What you need
- A Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 26 or later.
-
Xcode 26 or later, with its Metal Toolchain:
xcodebuild -downloadComponent MetalToolchain -
XcodeGen:
brew install xcodegen
Build and run
Get the source, then run the two scripts from the repository’s folder:
git clone https://github.com/fzlzjerry/OhMyShot.git
cd OhMyShot
Scripts/bootstrap.sh
Scripts/run.sh
Scripts/bootstrap.sh generates
OhMyShot.xcodeproj from project.yml.
Scripts/run.sh builds the Debug app, “OhMyShot Dev”,
and launches it.
Sign it once, keep the permission
macOS ties the Screen Recording permission to the app’s code signature. An ad-hoc signed build looks like a new app after every rebuild and loses the permission. To keep it, copy the signing example and fill in your Apple Development team (a free personal team works):
cp Config/Signing.local.xcconfig.example Config/Signing.local.xcconfig
Then grant Screen Recording when OhMyShot asks, and relaunch it: macOS applies the permission only to new processes. The Screen Recording guide has the details.
The Debug build
What you build this way is the Debug app. It has its own bundle
identifier, its own URL scheme (ohmyshot-dev://) and its
own default shortcuts, ⌃⌥⌘ plus a digit, so it can run next to a
release build without fighting over permissions or shortcuts. It
never looks for updates.
